Pricing Your Race
Overview
Setting the right entry fee is one of the most impactful decisions a sponsor makes. Lower fees lead to more participants, which means a better race experience, more P2P fundraising, and stronger engagement.
How Fees Work
There is no setup fee. Racery deducts its fee from each entry fee payment, or sponsors can prepay for racer coupons. Net proceeds and donations flow directly to the sponsor's connected Stripe account.
Pricing Strategy
Recommended range: $10–$15 for purely digital races.
Key pricing principles:
- Don't price at $0: Even a small fee ($5) increases psychological investment. Pulling out a credit card boosts the odds of making a donation and recruiting others. Free entry attracts uncommitted registrations.
- Beware price elasticity: Raising prices 40% (e.g., $25 to $35) can cut total entries in half. Gross revenue roughly breaks even, but fewer racers means a worse experience and less P2P fundraising.
- Match your audience: A corporate wellness group may tolerate $25–$40; a college audience may be deterred by $15.
- Offer a cyber-only package: Even if you sell a $40–$50 medal package, include an affordable digital-only option to maximize participation.
Tip: More racers = better experience for everyone. Optimize for participation volume, not per-entry revenue.
Coupons & Free Entry
For special groups — clients, partners, employees, or members — sponsors can distribute free or discounted entry coupons via the Coupon dashboard (premium feature).
This lets you keep a public entry fee while offering targeted free access without undermining the perceived value of the race.
Registration Packages
Sponsors can create registration packages that bundle digital race entry with physical swag (medals, t-shirts, etc.) or premium digital bling. Offering both a low-cost digital option and a higher-priced swag package maximizes both participation and revenue.
Billing Models
Racery offers two billing models for race sponsors:
Self-Serve (Pay-As-You-Go)
Participants pay at registration. Racery deducts its fee from each payment and passes the remainder to the sponsor's Stripe account. No upfront commitment required. Typical self-serve rates:
- Nonprofit rate: $7 / 1 week, $9 / 2 weeks, $11 / 1 month
- Standard rate: approximately $10–$19 per participant depending on race duration and features
Self-serve is ideal for sponsors uncertain about headcount or running a first-time event.
Prepay Packages
Sponsors pay upfront for a set number of racers and receive additional features (premium dashboards, custom branding, milestone emails). Prepay minimum is $600. Registrants beyond the prepaid cap are invoiced after the event at a per-racer overage rate.
Invoicing
Invoices for prepay packages are sent manually by the Racery team. After the race ends, sponsors also receive links to:
- The race photo gallery for sharing with participants
- The Reports dashboard for downloading race data, PDF reports, and participant statistics
Overage invoicing (racers beyond the prepaid cap) is handled after the event closes.
