Managing Your Account

Your Racery account is your identity across all virtual races. This guide covers how to set up, customize, and manage your account settings.

Creating Your Account

You create your Racery account and nickname when you sign up for your first virtual race — not before. Your race sponsor will share a registration URL where you can join. During sign-up you’ll choose a nickname that identifies you across Racery.

Nickname rules

  • Nicknames are unique across all of Racery (like Twitter handles)
  • Allowed characters: letters, numbers, and . + - _
  • If your preferred nickname is taken, try adding a number or creative spelling
Tip: You can edit your nickname later in your bio settings, as long as the new name is available.

Editing Your Bio & Nickname

There are two ways to edit your profile:

Option 1: Avatar Menu

  1. Click your avatar (top right) on any Racery page
  2. Select My Bio
  3. Click Edit My Bio
  4. Update your avatar, full name, nickname, or bio text
  5. Click Save

Option 2: Athletes Tab

  1. In your race, open the Athletes tab
  2. Click your name to go to your bio page
  3. Click Edit My Bio

Avatar images can be up to 5 MB. Your bio page is public at racery.com/yournickname.

Changing your email address

Go to Settings (from the avatar pulldown menu, top right) and update your email. Racery will send a confirmation to your new address.

Login & Passcode

By default, Racery authenticates you by sending a validation link to your email. But you can also set up a passcode for faster logins.

Setting up a passcode

  1. Log in to Racery and click your avatar (top right)
  2. Select Settings
  3. Find the Passcodes section
  4. Set or update your PIN

You received an initial passcode in your first device validation email when you joined Racery. If you’ve lost it, click Forgot Your Passcode? in Settings to get a new one via email.

Using your passcode to log in

On the login screen, check “Use my passcode” and enter your PIN instead of validating via email.

Why do I keep getting asked to validate my device?

This happens when you don’t accept cookies. If you prefer not to use cookies, use the passcode method described above.

Email Preferences

Reducing emails

You can turn off any specific type of Racery email by scrolling to the bottom of that email and clicking the first unsubscribe link. This only unsubscribes you from that particular email type — not all Racery emails.

Caution: Don’t click the last unsubscribe option at the bottom of the email unless you want to disconnect entirely from your race.

Daily exercise reminders stopped?

If you don’t open a specific email type for seven days, Racery automatically opts you out and sends a follow-up email asking if you’d like to continue receiving it. Search your inbox for “We’ve unsubscribed you” and click YES to reinstate it.

Opting back in

Email team@racery.com and the team can show you which emails you’re currently opted into and help re-enable any you’d like back.

Joining & Creating Groups

Groups let racers collaborate informally — for example, #doctors can compete against #nurses for total and average miles.

Joining an existing group

  1. Go to the Runners/Athletes tab on your race page
  2. Browse the list of existing groups at the top
  3. Click the group you want to join
  4. Click Add Me to This Group

Creating a new group

  1. Click your avatar → My Bio
  2. Click Edit My Bio
  3. Add your group name in the groups field

Groups with more than 2 racers appear on the main Group List once the race begins.

Changing Teams

You can’t change teams yourself — contact your race sponsor and ask them to move you. Sponsors have a dashboard that lets them reassign racers, assuming there’s room on the new team.

Getting a new bib

If you’ve changed teams, updated your name, or lost your bib, visit your bio page (click your avatar → My Bio, or go to racery.com/yournickname). Your current bib — with updated info — is in the right column.

Data & Privacy

Racery retains your personal information for two years to support recurring events (like a company’s annual race). After two years, your data is automatically deleted. Returning racers after that period will need to create a new account and nickname.

Race sponsors are separately responsible for managing their copies of racer personal information.

Deleting Your Account

  1. Log in and click your avatar (top right)
  2. Select Settings
  3. Scroll down and click Delete my Racery account
  4. Confirm by visiting the link sent via email

The email confirmation step prevents accidental deletion. This action is permanent.
