Custom Badges

Overview

Racery's "bling" system is a collection of digital awards that participants earn and share throughout their race. Just as physical races hand out bibs, medals, and T-shirts, Racery provides digital equivalents that symbolize participation, achievement, and belonging.

Bling includes digital bibs, completion and participation awards, challenge badges, postcards, donor placards, and more. Each type serves a different purpose in the participant experience.

Bling Types

Bling Type When Earned What It Shows
Digital Bib Upon registration (pre-race) Racer name, number, team, route, sponsor logo
Completion Award Upon finishing the race (reaching the end of the route or target distance) Race title, distance, racer name, sponsor logo — the virtual finisher’s medal
Participation Award At race end for all participants (regardless of completion) Race title, racer name — acknowledges taking part even without finishing
Challenge Badge Streak achievement, quiz completion, or manual assignment Displayed on racer profile as a collectible badge. Gold/silver/bronze streak or Quiz Master
Postcard At pin drop locations along the route Location image, racer name, race title. Assigned to racer but not displayed on their profile
Volunteering Award Awarded to race volunteers Recognition of volunteer contribution
Fundraising Award Awarded for fundraising achievements Fundraising milestone recognition
Donor Placard Awarded to donors Acknowledgement of donation
Announcement Placard Triggered by organizer via announcement email Custom content — used for race-wide communications and awards
Facebook Cover Available for sharing Social media cover image branded to the race
Third Party External integration Bling from third-party sources

Digital Bibs

Digital bibs are the first piece of bling a participant receives. Issued at registration, they mirror the experience of picking up a race bib at a physical event.

Each digital bib includes:

  • The participant's name and bib number
  • Team name (if assigned to a team)
  • Route name and total distance
  • Race sponsor logo (when provided)
  • Racery branding

Bibs are shareable on social media. Many participants post their bibs on LinkedIn, Instagram, or internal company channels, which generates pre-race buzz and encourages others to join.

Completion & Participation Awards

Racery distinguishes between two types of finish-line awards:

Completion Award

Earned when a participant completes the race (reaches the end of the virtual route or logs the target distance). This is the virtual equivalent of a finisher’s medal.

Each completion award includes:

  • Race title and date
  • Total distance covered
  • Participant’s name
  • Sponsor logo and Racery branding

Participation Award

Given to all participants at race end, regardless of whether they completed the full distance. This ensures every racer receives recognition for taking part.

Both award types are downloadable and shareable. Completion awards are a powerful motivator — participants close to the finish line often push through the final miles specifically to earn theirs.

Challenge Badges

Challenge badges are a special category of bling tied to specific achievements during the race:

Streak Badges

Earned by logging activity on consecutive days. Available in gold, silver, and bronze variants based on the streak length (e.g., 10-day streak for gold, 7 for silver, 3 for bronze).

Quiz Badges

Earned by completing a linked Quizlab quiz. Participants who finish the quiz receive a "Quiz Master" badge displayed in their profile.

Challenge Bling vs. Postcards

Two bling types serve different purposes and behave differently on racer profiles:

Feature Challenge Bling Postcard
Displayed on profile Yes — appears as a badge on the racer's profile page No — assigned to the racer but not shown on their profile
Triggers email Yes — can trigger an announcement email to the recipient No automatic email
Image required Optional. With an image, it becomes a collectible badge. Without an image, it only triggers the email notification. Includes a location image by default
Common use Achievement badges, quiz completion, streak milestones, manual awards Location-based awards at pin drops along the route

Retroactive Milestone Assignment

If a racer has already passed a distance milestone before milestone emails were enabled, you can manually award the milestone using a challengeBling in the Bling dashboard. Create a Challenge award with the content left empty (just triggers the email) or add an image to create a collectible badge on their profile.

Custom Branding

Premium race packages allow full customization of bling:

  • Sponsor logo: Your organization's logo appears on bibs, finish awards, and challenge badges
  • Custom background: Upload a custom background image for challenge badges (1200×1200 px recommended)
  • Organization colors: Match bling designs to your brand palette
  • Custom badge images: Replace default badge templates with fully custom designs

Custom branding transforms bling from a generic achievement marker into a branded keepsake that reinforces your organization's identity.
